I LOVE EASTERN CANADA!!!!!

I’m now in PEI but I wrote this this morning from Halifax:

It’s a beautiful day here in Halifax! It’s my first time here and I get what all the fuss is about. It’s a truly beeee-utiful place.

I got a very cute tea cup from an antique store here. It’s actually a shaving cup from the 1800s but is the perfect modern day antique big tea cup. So this will be the tea cup I take everywhere on the road!! You’ll see me with it after and before shows!! It’s a good English tea cup so my tea will stay warm for hours..and hopefully it doesn’t taste like shaving cream.

I’m about to re-pack my suitcase ( the story of my life)..I’m being dramatic, but seriously it’s the story of my life..

And head to Charlottetown..our very last stop of CMT K-Star.
I remember watching an of green gables as a kid ( who didn’t really )..and really that’s all I know about PEI…and something tells me I will she sending a lot of postcards home from there!
Maybe I’ll plant myself at a coffee shop and do that with a nice cup of tea..only if there is time!

What I’m really excited to do is meet some of the people I have only met on facebook.

After PEI I fly home on fathers day and have a day off then get ready to shoot the video for my first single called…( drum roll please…) “You Make Me Feel”.

I’m very excited to get this Summertime song out there!!!
It’s released to radio on June 21…so in 4 days!

More soon…and pics of me with braids in my hair…Anne of Green Gables style.

Xoxo Jessie

Tweet Tweet

Hey..there..

I’m on my way into hair and make up for the first night of K-star! Tomorrow we head to Calgary!
Don’t forget that if you want to, you can just come by and watch the 10 final contestants sing in your city! Come and cheer them on.LAAAALAAALAAA

Speaking of meeting up…I was talking to Casey Clarke last night and we have decided to do a joint “Tweet-Up” randomly in cities across the country.

No this is not a meeting where everyone dresses like birds and does their famous bird call…

If you don’t know what a tweet up is…well..up until a few weeks ago, I didn’t either…Basically, we will be sending Tweets ( short updates..like status updates on facebook but they go directly to your phone)..to let you know where and when these Tweet-Ups will be.

Anyone who sees our tweets and finds out where we will be having our tweet-ups can come and join us…..BUT you’ve got to be watching out becasue we will be springing the time on you and the place ( but to give you a tip..most of the locations will be near the K-star venues)..so you don’t have to come and find us in the middle of the woods somewhere!! You can see the schedule of where and when we’ll be in each city here: http://ow.ly/99dQ

We are gonna try this out and see who is twitterific and than we can all have a cup of tea together and chat or just hang out!

See you all you new twits!!! ( I’m a fairly new twit too)

You can sign-up for Twitter by clicking this link: Twitter.com
and once you are signed-up, go to www.twitter.com/jessiefarrell and click the “Follow” button under my picture and do the same for Casey at www.twitter.com/caseyclarke

So..here I am back on the road in Kelowna. It really is the start of Summer here. I grew up spending a lot of my Summers here as a kid. I have a lot of family memories here. Eating peaches and cherries and playing in the water..I remember catching Minos in a little net with other kids on the beach and learning how to water ski here. My dad would make me slaver on a thick layer of 30 or 45 sunscreen if I wanted to stay out in the sun past noon.

Anyways..where was I. Oh ya, I met with Joel Stewart ( who got a hair cut and looks Great!!)and the whole production team for dinner last night. It was a really good dinner and a great start to just over 3 weeks of serious bonding!

I woke up this morning and dragged myself down to the gym. It was my first real workout since before I had bronchitis. I mean sure I’ve been walking and stuff but I haven’t actually lifted clunky metal things and bounced around on a purple ball for quite some time.

It went well, but having a green tea while watching tv on the treadmill was a civilized way of easing into it..heehee.

Then I was off to B103 where I chatted with the folks there. They are such nice people! “Dirtman” ..the station promotions rep was kind enough to drive me to Michael’s crafts where I finally picked out a needle point to start…Casey Clarke kind of makes fun of me for doing nerdy crafts but what the heck..I am traveling so much, and I don’t like to sit still and do nothing so needle point makes it relaxing and keeps my mind calm. Also, I can get a little obsessed with emails and whats happening next and whats happening next..

Tomorrow is my first day being a judge on K-star! I hope all you shower singers come out and sing for us! I heard from a little birdie that the singers here in Kelowna were incredible today!! I am really looking forward to it and I have some cute clothes from Mavi Jeans and some greeeeat accessorize from Beauty Mark (my fav little beauty store in Vancouver) so that’s always a good thing! I am not sure..I think I may skip wearing the jean daisy dukes..hmmm or maybe I’ll try em?

I wish I brought a mini travel guitar with me..darn. I’ll have to pick one up somewhere along the way!

I broke half the nail on my right pinkie ..ouch! ( info you didn’t need to know..but I thought was important to tell you..and every time I type my finger hurts!!)

I think I’m going to attempt to watch Benjamin Button now……..I have a feeling I will be taken on a very long adventure…just a feeling.

Ps. The BIG apple here in Kelowna is this giant apple where I think they sell fries…but when I was a kid, I thought it was a magic apple on the beach!

Smoke & Cherries

I just fell in love with the most amazing real lavender dryer softener things…I was staying at this beautiful house in Nashville..I was watching Enchanted, and I opened the laundry room and what did I find? these dryer sachets that you put in with your clothes and they smell like lavender. So now I feel like my clothes smell good and they are calming..cool dude.

I bumped into Deric Ruttan here at Sony Tree Studios in Nashville and he came in and sang backups on “Nobody Says No to Me.” I was thrilled to have him sing on this next record! It’s funny I seem to love his music more and more every time I hear it. I like the tone of his voice and he is laid back but cool and confident sounding. He is also a successful writer here in Nashville and I have a lot of respect for his years of hard work penning songs!

I’m sitting here in this stinky studio (cause it smells like smoke and lots of late night sessions) I’m eating cherries, drinking perrier, listening to the thunder and lightening outside and am just about to record the last few tracks on this record.

Jason Gantt (who is engineering this record) and Victoria Shaw and myself are sitting here finishing this little gem of a song called Lavender Tea (because how could I not sing about Tea?). And will probably be the last song on the record which is funny because it’s the last of 11 songs we are recording.

My best friend has come out to meet me and spend Tonight and Saturday with me. We are going to be tourists and rent a car and drive thru the country side. Maybe steal a horse! You know..why not..? What a perfect way to end this trip.

It’s been a treat to be here and to learn so much from people who have opened their hearts and their homes and taught me so much. It’s also been great trying bubble tea..but for some reason I feel like those little starch balls are fish eggs and they are gonna hatch into gold fish in my tummy! Whatever…

Oh and I am on the Chevey Cross Canada Countdown tonight at 7pm ET time so check it out! We had a LOT of fun filming it!

Scared $&*$*less

Water & my lucky scarf!

Water & my lucky scarf!

I’m on a little breaky at the studio in Smashville..I call it that cause the goal is to write a smash hit when you are in Nashville..Anyways, I just made Victoria my Pro-ducer a cup of Organic Fair Trade Vanilla Black tea. She loved it..I am getting her into drinking tea..slowly but surely..the problem is that there are no darn kettles in these studios and it is sac-religious ( is that how you spell it??) to make tea in a microwave..I mean fine I am ok with heating your last few sips in the microwave but you gotta start with a kettle to get the water to the right temp. Blah blah obviously this is boring to most people.

So I have been in Smasherville for 5 days and we are 2 songs in cutting the vocals and we have recorded all the instruments for the songs. I worked with the most clever bunch of musicians there is! I felt hyper and excited and lucky and nervous the whole time I worked with them..I wonder if they walk around thinking..yes I am one of the top 3 drummers in country music..yes I am sooo cool?

Maybe they have little moments of that but mostly I think they are good because they have a quiet confidence.

I noticed that a lot of amazing players chew gum while rehearsing and recording…wonder if it keeps them calm? Maybe I am over analyzing. Anyways, they heard me play guitar on the rough track of Roadside Sandwich and I felt really proud and nervous to have these musicians interpret my songs.

We recorded the vocals on FRIED and Part of Your Fantasy today and have a couple hours left. I’m staying at a very beautiful Apartment for this first week and last night there was a very scary storm. I am on the 20th floor and the lightening was flashing every 5 seconds and the whole apartment lit up from 4-5 in the morning! I was scared @$#%$#$%$ -less…and said a little ok maybe this is it prayer.

There is a cute little grocery store in the entrance to the apt. so I have been getting groceries so I can cook at night. I love being able to cook and drink my new white and green tea and have bubble baths and feel kinda of the closest thing to home.

I keep picturing touring this record and there are lots of upbeat songs and I dream with these songs in my head all night cause I am so focused on getting them to sound good.

Happy Spring…who is going to Star Trek tonight? I am not a Trekkie but even I kind of want to see it! They sure picked the perfect guy to play Spock.

Coming back from the dead

All I can say is that being sick…for lack of a better word..SUCKS. I have a whole new appreciation for people who stay positive when they are ill. I had my best friend cheering me on and making me dinners and looking after me. But imagine if I didn’t. I seriously wouldn’t have seen any point in carrying on. What I realized is that when you are sick, you are not just physically under the weather. Every single negative thought and stress comes to mind when you are sick..or maybe just when I get sick.

And as you start to physically feel better you are crawling in your own skin while thinking about all the stresses and horrible things in the world.

I did just about everything..I even went for vitamin intravenously and am taking organic million dollar supplements and drinking smoothies and watching funny movies and sitting on the porch to ” heal my eyeballs”.

No wonder people watch cartoons. I should have just upped my codeine and kept it blurry and simple but instead stayed present in the painful moment!!! Crawling in my skin was an understatement.

People, have we no real cure for the flu??? Sorry to sound cliche but we can send people to space and fly and text and bladablada…but there really is nothing we can do when it comes to the flu. There should be flu support groups. I mean I don’t know about you guys but fevers are not cool not cool at all. The flu is like an alien taking over your body without knocking you out.

All I can say is thank goodness for orange juice, and frozen strawberries and sunshine and friends and pugs and seasons one and two of “2 and a half men” , and Tylenol cold and flu and sunglasses and scarves and fresh mangoes and other people who tell you how sick they were…so you don’t feel like your flu is weird and endless.

Now it’s Monday and I have been sick for 8 days and it’s time to get organized for the show I am playing on Thursday.

And then I head to Nashville on Sunday to finish the album.

Life goes on. I am slowly getting going again and somehow describing my last week is helping mew move forward and start my busy life up again.

This flu has definitely taught me to be even more germ -phobic than I was before! That weird girl on planes with a scarf over her face..that is me.

Coming home

Watching a re make of Annie the musical. Kind of stinks but fun to see because I still know every word of every song in the musical! I must have seen the original movie a million times and I got a doll with red curly hair when I was a kid and I covered her cheeks in felt pen feckles to make her look more like orphan annie…

It’s my last day here in Nashville until May. I have been here for 2 weeks!

I’ve done alot while I’ve been here.. Wrote songs for the album…cut songs..we will be finished singing the vocals on these songs tonight. I also lived thru 2 Nashville storms and tornado warnings and my heart and prayers go out to everyone not just in Nashville but throughout the US who has been impacted by the Tornadoes., I almost got hit by a car and witnessed a woman get hit, I almost got hit by a bus, I tried great Southern food, I saw the most beautiful houses and farms near the “bigger dog” recording studio, I went to my first Passover dinner at a temple with Victoria and her family, I fell in love with cream cheese Danishes, and I found a new appreciation for Nashville… and I learned A LOT!! Like alot alot!!

I can’t wait to get this record out!!!

Happy Easter to you all! I hope you’re hop hop hopping around with loved ones and eating a ton of chocolate! I can’t wait to do that tomorrow! (more…)

Live from Nashville

Gotta keep hydrated!

Gotta keep hydrated!

At the studio in Nashville. The sun is shining and we are working on the first song of the day! Sounding great so far ( and I’m not just saying that). Loving all these hands..the musicians here are like angels ( or puttis) with their love bows!!! With great aim!

All cool and calm some of them chewing gum. They each stay in their own musical zone.

I’m another girl coming in here. I bet they see a lot of singer/songwriters each week… But I always try to show my respect and appreciation for their talents!!

Here are some more pictures:

Mark Hudson!

Mark Hudson is great. Check out this YouTube video he made. He produced the massive Hanson record. He co-wrote “Livin’ On The Edge” with Aerosmith.

iPhones can be hazardous to your health

I’m typing with my left hand cause I have iphone over using pain in my right hand…painful but humorous!! I know.

Jokes on me for self afflicting a technology induced sore hand!!

Sunday and sunny here in Nashville. I hung out with a bunch of people after going to Victoria’s show.

Met Handon the band. Very talented musicians and they are very smart and nice people. Their sunshiny energy was contagious. Sounds weird bit it’s the only way I can explain it. Also met Michelle Branch and we all went for dinner together. We are gonna try and write on Monday..hope it happens. I really like her “I’m sweet but I don’t really give a crap” kind of vibe. She asked if she needs to dye her hair red to fit in in the writing sesion with me and Victoria…heehee.

Wow typing with my left hand is getting easier..bit still annoying!!

Happy Sunday. I’m a tiny bit homesick. Haven’t really been home much in 5 weeks. So I’m having to kick my own butt to get movin.

I’m really looking forward to coming home with 3 new recorded songs!

Than we’ll finish the album in may….
