Mattresses & Bathtubs

We made it thru the storm here. Tornado warnings everywhere. The advice I got last night was that if the warning came on the tv, I was to get in the bath and cover myself with my mattress. Problem is that I measured the bathroom entrance and it wouldn’t fit the mattress so I was really hoping for no tornado..or a room with a single bed??!!

They say the sky turns green during a tornado.
Thank goodness for frickin familliar and comforting Sex in the City re-runs on tv to take my mind off the spinner!

More later…

Ps.I love the song Steve Earle by Sugarland!
Pss. I heard Sage tea is amazing with honey before playing a show ( Steven Tyler’s tip)…I’ll have to go find it.

A little angry

I am angry. I rarely get angry but since I am alone at a coffee shop in Nashville I thought what better place than to share my pure anger on my blog.

Grrrrrrrr ( me being piss:;()$@@@&d off!

So here’s the reason. President Obama is on tv giving a live speech in London at the London Summit. The headlines on CNN say “a plan to rescue the world”..anyways I’m so emotional I can barely type…on this phone!!

So I’m standing in line to get my latte and these two woman in their 50s look over at the tv and Obama and one woman says to the other…ohhh a plan to save the world…yuck, I can’t even look at him.

I wanted to whip out my popeye fist and well you know….give her a sailor punch!

It’s one thing to feel like you are not trusting of your leader because of Bush BUT if we are gonna make this frickin world better we need to be positive and send as much love in Obama’s direction as we possibly can.

Anyways..I’m starting to feel better but when I was in the line up, what I really wanted to say to them was ..and what are you two doing to help and love your planet!!!!!!!

Maybe I’m just hungry or offside a little but I believe it takes everbody on this planet to make it shine!!

Anyways..I’m sending those 2 women love because I know they feel fearful!

Blurry Eyed Blogger

Writing this at 4:28 am Vancouver time. Sitting in my track pants and my pink runners and my new pink soy shirt I got from the swag at the Junos.
Just went thru customs in Toronto after taking the red eye. I don’t think I moved the entire flight. I slept the whole way!

Heading to Nashville. I’ll be there for two weeks to finish recording my album with Victoria Shaw! Brought very little luggage because Im trying to keep it simple. Seems while I’m touring, I am always lugging sooo much stuff around and really it’s more of a security blanket than anything…
I figured, I don’t need a massive make-up back since really I end up using 5 things. And I’ll be writing and working away so it’s not like I need a bunch if dresses.

I kissed Rupert & Henry before I went but I didn’t say bye, I just said I love them. Rupert saw my suitcase open and wasn’t impressed with me.

The Junos were fun. My favourite moments were: ( in no particular order)… And I may add to this later..

Eating dinner before the show( I love free catering in stadiums) especially when I can relax and am not too nervous. I had spinach cannelloni and salad. I know this sounds weird..but as I always say, a hot meal can take you a long way!

Walking down the red carpet! I was out of my comfort zone posing for the cameras heehee! But I loved meeting fans and signing and doing photos! One girl yelled out, “say hi to Jesse Tucker ( my guitar player)..he used to teach me guitar!!!!”

It was great that fans uploaded their pics from the red carpet in real time, right to facebook. And sent me very sweeet messages! Especially when I didn’t win!

Meeting Bryan Adams!
Meeting KD Lang!
Chatting with Michael Buble
Having a really nice chat with Chad Kroeger about my new songs
Meeting Kathleen Edwards

Going to the Universal Music party at the Opus Hotel..hanging out with friends there.

Watching the show..but also sneaking out during the ads to go and get treats from catering and have a tea!

Missing the Redhead and Redneck Tour already!!! Thanks to everyone who came out and saw the show.

Xoxo Jessie

Last day of the tour

So I did this Garnier promo thing with E talk and got to stay in a
beautiful hotel..dreamy beautiful. With perfect everything…anyways
Le Germain hotel in Toronto rocks!

The morning complimentary breakfast was mini chocolate croissant and
fresh juices and mini pancakes and crepes and and and. You can just
tell that the people that run it are passionate about what they do
because every detail was perfecto! Anyways..don’t want to bore you
with my obsession with good hotels!

You know I even appreciate some of the cheaper hotels…as long as the
service is good!

So…now I’m sitting on the tour bus messy hair typing this bloggerama
on my iPhone in Alberta. We are finishing the last few shows of the
Redhead and Redneck tour. Last night we played at Olds College to a
rowdy crowd! Really fun!! Tonight we play to an all ages
crowd in Spruce View Alberta. Tomorrow morning we head to Vancouver
for Le Junoz…..aye carumba!!!!! Will you still read my blog if I
don’t win the award????? Booohooo. Hope so! Oh then off to Nashville
Monday to finish the next album! Doyoyoy! It’s snowy here. Me no wanna
leave the bus for sound checky.

Xoxo reporting live from the Redhead& the redneck tour! Coming your

Easy Sunday Blog

It’s Sunday today and I have had a great time on Vancouver Island hanging out with the Pugs and family. Went for a walk on the beach and it was a sunny beautiful spring day here! Loving my favorite Mount Royal bagels and spending time just taking it slow and drinking tea and reading magazines and sewing buttons on shirts ( i love fixing things when I have the time).

I’ve got some traveling to do over the next week and I’ll be continuing on the Redhead & Redneck tour! I watched the first part of Bottle Shock, a new movie about growing wine. It was pretty good but I guess sleep was more important zzzzz.

Junos are coming up in less than a week…ekkk! Still haven’t decided what dress to wear but I have a pretty good idea….

Hyper

The only really good thing about this moment is that my nails are painted bright red ( left over from the Toro photo shoot I did yesterday) and that there are more m&ms in the cupboard if I want them. Oh and that I’m wearing one of my new little blouses from Joe Fresh ( free at the FQ photoshoot I did). Ok sh*&%###t there are lots of good things about this moment!
I guess if you start dramatically listing the only good things about a moment, you’ll actually come up with a lot of good things.

So anyways..doing lots of this and that scrappy scooby stuff today! Has to be done! Just got my list of songs ready to send to Victoria Shaw (my wonderful redhead producer on this record). I got all the lyrics typed and mp3 d all the songs and sent each one of them with a bit of love.

Soon we will know what will be on the album! I played Roadside Sandwich (one of my new songs on tour and I got a grrrrrrrrrrrrrreaatttt reaction from all the sweet tigers who came out to the Redhead and the Redkneck tour dates!

Gord Bamford wants everyone to know that he was the one to call it a hit first. So there you go Gord!!

We all had such a great time on the tour and now I am home for a few days. I visited my friends new baby,I brought treats to another friend who is home sick, I did a photoshoot and an ET Canada interview ( it’s supposed to be on on Monday..I think noon) and i have been writing so many email replies that my hands hurt! BUT I had to make sure I blogged!!!

Junos are coming up soon!
Love to all you beautiful fellow cyber sweeties!

xoxoxoxoxo Feeling hyper and productive!

Jessie

PS. Looks like I’m going to be in Nashville for over 2 weeks recording the exciting next album! What will I do without the Pugs. I can’t even go there yet!!!!I can’t even think about it.

Cookies & Hoodies

We are in Vermilion sitting on the bus. It’s snowing lightly and we are all clad in hoodies to cover our little ears and faces. I am the queen of wearing a hoodie in the morning. It makes me feel like nobody can see me and my sleepy eyes. Here is a YouTube clip of Gord and me singing “Years Ago Last Night” one of the duets we sing together.

It’s the 12th show tonight! Wow, feels like yesterday that we were in rehearsals for the tour. Tomorrow we all fly and drive home and have a week off and then we head back out on tour for a few dates.

I have been overwhelmed with the response to the Redhead and The Redneck shows! A lot of the shows have either been sold out or close to it. So thank you everyone for making it out to the shows! I have even seen a few people come to more than one show!!

We’ve been uploading video and keeping as updated as possible but a couple nights ago, I got in trouble from someone after a show in Winnipeg for not writing a blog for a few days….so here I am!!
Back at the keyboard.

I got this new face cream in Drayton Valley that is sooo amazing. It’s a vitamin company and it is called Flor-essence..in case anyone cares!

I am loving everyone’s company on this bus. It’s so lucky that none of us want to beat the crap out of each other. Instead we have all become very close and I am soooo grateful to have an experience like this!

Tea Parties are going really well and thanks to everyone who has supported us by purchasing our cds. And we are so glad that people are digging the R&R Tour T-shirts!

Next week I do a fashion photoshoot in Vancouver and they are gonna style me to look like a bond girl from the 60s..that should be interesting..my brother-in -law is a Bond freak so he will appreciate it!

Then I head off to Vancouver Island to see the baby pugs. I miss them sooooooo much. Ekkkk! Hope they remember me! They really love their gramma so maybe they will ignore us when we walk in the door!

Sitting in the snow here makes me want to sit in a lawn chair for a week and get warm! But that’s not gonna happen for a while..

Too much to do.

After Vancouver Island, I head to Toronto and do a Juno promo thing with Garnier hair products for the Junos. Should be fun.

I want to thank Kimber for baking me and Gord cookies!! They were so good but unfortunately some sneakers ate most of them while I was sleeping on the bus! Good news is I have the recipe!

xoxoxo Love and cookey-ness!

Videos from the tour

Hey there!!
I’m having a great time out here on the road. The “Redhead and the Redneck Tour 2009″ is going really well so far! It has been so great getting to meet friends at shows that I have only ever known online! Thanks to everyone who has come out to the shows and also thanks to everyone who have joined me at my tea parties. We are in Regina now and are playing at the Casino tonight. It’s sold out!!!! Yahooooooo.

I am going to try and get a quick workout in and than head to rehearsal. Gord Bamford is in the middle of sound checking right now.

I Just bought a humidifier because I am finding the air is really dry on my throat here and also on the bus while we travel.

I have been posting videos to Facebook and YouTube regularly while on tour..so if you haven’t had a chance to see them..here they are!

Hope to see you at an upcoming show soon.

Keep breathing!

Rehearsals!

I just finished 2 days of intense rehearsals and press for the Redhead and the Redneck Tour. Lots of singing!!!

I am going to bed in about 3 minutes!

It’s been a good few days. I’ve had to learn a bunch of new stuff and I really noticed that after working in the studio with Victoria Shaw last week, I learned a lot and have become a stronger vocalist.

Gord Bamford and his crew are all very nice people and we all went out for dinner at Boston Pizza and I had whole wheat pasta and veggies. It is gonna be a great tour and everyone is really all about working together and having a great tour!

Blogging from the studio

Well..I’m not in the studio right this minute..but that is because it is 7am on Sunday Morning…

It’s the beginning of my second day today here in Nashville. I am here to record the first 3 songs for my upcoming second record. I think that would be called my sophomore record? So anyways..I flew here from Toronto yesterday after a good press day where I got to meet all the other artists nominated for Junos in the New Artist category. AND I got to wear and keep some beautiful new Joe Fresh clothes! In fact, I got to the airport with a bulging bag because of the very generous people at the photo shoot.

Everyone at the photo shoot was really lovely..from hair and make up to the Etalk people to the fashion TV people to the stylists to the very talented photographer to Ricky with the tie covered in whales. He was so lovely and is a friend of Dallas’ from CMT so of course he is a nice guy!

I walked off the the plane to a cloudy but warm day here in Nashville and headed right to my hotel. I’m staying at a different hotel again because I am trying them out until I find the perfect one! This one is pretty good so far. I was up at 5 am yesterday morning so I decided either I fall asleep and be groggy all day or I work out…so I threw my gym clothes on and worked out. Just enough of a workout to feel a bit of energy kick in.

Anyways…so I went to “Bread and Co” this soup and sandwich place here and had my new fav sandwich called “Veggie Boulder”. I don’t usually like sandwiches with millions of vegetables in them but I have to say that this one is soooo good! And I love avocado yum! And toasted multi grain bread…with a bowl of really good tomato soup!

After my lunch, Victoria Shaw, (the woman who is producing my album) picked me up and we were off to the studio. She is not only very talented and just produced the Lady Antebellum album but she is very smart and I look up to her as a strong working female with a balanced family life…we all know that having a balanced life takes work and when you are in the music industry, you don’t meet a lot of female producers let alone female producers who “have a life!”…anyways, as I was saying, we got to the studio and I jumped in the booth or more like the big room..popped on my ear phones and sang and sang and sang!

We finished in the early evening and I came back to my hotel and was asleep within an hour! So tired and needing to rest my voice. We will work on the 2nd song today. The tracks are sounding really good and I am focused and wanting to sound as good as possible. Hopefully I can make all the future listeners proud!!

More later. Happy Sunday!

xoxo Jessie
